Why I Now Fully Support Marianne Williamson for President
Last Friday, I watched Marianne Williamson’s CNN Town Hall — and had a profound shift in my perspective on her candidacy.
Like many of her friends and allies, I celebrate her as one of the most powerful truth-tellers, teachers, and speakers of our time, possessing a remarkable ability to lift others up with her words. I know her as a healer, an inspired activist, and a visionary leader who masterfully weaves together the work of raising awareness and uplifting society.
However, for all of these positive qualities, I still wasn’t sure whether I could see her as President of the United States of America.
She’s a prophetic voice, absolutely. A catalyst to uplift the conversation? Yes. A powerful change agent. Of course. But the Chief Executive for our country?
In all frankness, I wasn’t sure she had what it takes to go through the necessary fires and wield the power wisely without a background in politics or management.
But seeing her on CNN, I came to the clear recognition that she would offer America the most powerful, era-changing and transformational presidency of any of the candidates in the Democratic field.
In her answer to a question on reparations, I was dazzled by her thought-provoking, historically-grounded answer that stirred my moral conscience to recognize that America urgently needs to take this step to address our racial history. In her answer to a question on Israel, I saw a Jewish woman who transcended tribal loyalty in her heart and mind to equally commit to both the dignity of Palestinians and the security of Israel.
In each area of policy, she offered both a cogent analysis of where things are broken and a Martin Luther King-esque voice of moral clarity for how we collectively can heal them. With compelling candor, she spoke to the corruption of the American political system and the path to its redemption. She spoke about going beyond “health care for all” to a system that truly supports and empowers health on the deepest levels.
In each answer, she offered not only a policy framework but a higher “why” that offered an evolutionary pathway to fulfill our founding ideals.
Watching this, it became clearer to me just what a potent force for American evolution would be unleashed if she were in the White House. I also recognized that seasoned, qualified executives can be hired to run every major area of the government — and many of the other candidates would be perfect for such roles.
However, the ability to speak the conscience of a nation — to raise us up, to dissolve our delusions, and to remind us of who we truly are — is the highest, hardest, and most vital task of a President, and one that Marianne is uniquely gifted to fulfill.
With the biggest stage in the world, a President can do more to uplift the consciousness of our country and the world than anyone else — and can also degrade the state of our collective consciousness in ways that can take years to undo.
That’s why the medicine that Marianne offers is essential after the deep wounding of our national character that we have experienced with Donald Trump.
We need more than a change of power from right to left or a restoration of Obama-era policies. We need more than economic and electoral reforms, or ways to expand the availability of health care benefits.
We literally need a rebirth of the American character and a recommitment to America’s highest ideals.
We need a resurrection of the nation’s moral conscience.
And there is no other candidate that can do that work to heal and uplift the consciousness of our country the way that Marianne can do.
If she were to win office, we would set our country on a pathway to a deeper kind of transformation, which is exactly what we need in order to meet the pressing challenges of climate change in the decade ahead of us.
We need to mobilize major changes quickly — and it will require someone who can speak past political divides to reconnect us with our collective soul.
It’s true that getting Marianne into the Oval Office will require a real miracle. She has just broken through 1% in the latest CNN poll, which is progress, but sometimes hasn’t been included in lists of major candidates. She is starting with far less developed infrastructure than many of the others in the field.
However, there is a palpable electricity that is starting to build around the campaign. When people hear her, they are inspired, moved, and motivated. She has moved to Iowa to focus her efforts there. And she is tracking steadily towards the 65,000 donation threshold set by the DNC to reach the debate stage, where her penetrating insights will undoubtedly turn more hearts and minds towards her message of healing the soul of our country.
I have witnessed real miracles in my own life when they are in alignment with what most needs to happen.
And that’s why I believe the miracle of Marianne winning the Presidency is possible — because it is what we most need.
America has been on a downward political spiral for some time, with a political landscape increasingly corrupted and paralyzed by big money, short-sighted decisions, and partisan warfare. At the root is an addiction to power that has gotten in the way of genuine care, integrity, and compassionate action at the level of policy.
Before an addict can enter recovery, they typically need to hit rock bottom. They need to face the consequences of their destructive and delusional behavior in a sufficiently painful way in order to open to the recognition they simply have to set a radically new course.
I and many others believe that America has reached our political rock bottom with President Trump’s corrupt degradation of the office, aided and abetted by a complicit Republican party hungry to maintain power at any cost.
That’s why we don’t just need a new President this cycle — we need to enter recovery. We need radical truth-telling. A ruthless moral inventory. Real healing. And the strongest possible call to our higher character and destiny.
In short, America needs to undergo a real transformation with this election cycle — a transformation in both consciousness and in political policy.
That transformation can only be birthed out of fierce love, powerful truth-telling, moral courage, and a willingness to get real. Anything less will fail to pull us out of our addictions and derail us from manifesting our most beautiful destiny.
So I invite you to watch Marianne’s Town Hall, envision the liberating power of her voice in the White House, and take seriously the possibility of her being America’s next President
If you see the transformative power in this scenario, please join me in donating to her campaign and sharing her message with your networks.
Let’s create the miracle together.
